2026 Voter Guide: Gun Violence Prevention
We believe voters deserve to know where candidates stand on gun violence prevention.
For 2026, Virginians for Change has officially endorsed candidates who completed our candidate questionnaire and demonstrated a strong commitment to preventing gun violence.
We also support candidates who did not complete our questionnaire but have demonstrated a strong record of supporting gun violence prevention during their time in public office.
Our recommendations are based specifically on gun violence prevention—not party affiliation.
U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
VA-01 — Shannon Taylor | SUPPORT
As Henrico County Commonwealth’s Attorney, Taylor has worked to reduce gun violence and supported efforts including safe storage. She has also earned recognition from national gun-safety organizations.
Why not her opponent? Rob Wittman has consistently opposed many of the gun-safety policies we believe will save lives.
VA-02 — Elaine Luria | SUPPORT
Luria has a strong record of supporting common-sense gun safety measures and has consistently advocated for policies to reduce gun violence.
VA-03 — Bobby Scott | SUPPORT
Scott has been a longtime supporter of gun violence prevention and has backed federal efforts to strengthen background checks and keep guns out of dangerous hands.
VA-04 — Jennifer McClellan | SUPPORT
McClellan has a strong record of supporting gun violence prevention in Virginia and Congress, including measures designed to keep firearms out of the hands of people who pose a danger.
VA-05 — Tom Perriello | ENDORSED
Perriello completed our candidate questionnaire and demonstrated a strong commitment to making gun violence prevention a priority in Congress.
VA-06 — Beth Macy | SUPPORT
Macy has spent years reporting on the human cost of addiction, violence, and the failures of systems meant to keep communities safe. We believe her perspective would bring an important voice to the gun violence prevention conversation.
VA-07 — Eugene Vindman | ENDORSED
Vindman completed our candidate questionnaire and demonstrated a strong commitment to preventing gun violence and protecting Virginia families.
VA-08 — Don Beyer | SUPPORT
Beyer has consistently supported federal gun violence prevention measures and has been a strong advocate for policies designed to reduce gun deaths and injuries.
VA-09 — Joy Powers | ENDORSED
Powers completed our candidate questionnaire and demonstrated a strong commitment to gun violence prevention. She has also made gun violence prevention part of her campaign's public policy conversation.
VA-10 — Suhas Subramanyam | ENDORSED

Senator Warner has consistently supported federal gun violence prevention efforts, including stronger background checks and other common-sense measures to reduce gun deaths.
Why VFC makes recommendations
Gun violence is preventable—and elected officials have a responsibility to act.
We evaluate candidates based on their commitment to policies that can save lives, including safe firearm storage, universal background checks, Extreme Risk Protection Orders, community violence intervention, and keeping firearms away from people who pose a danger to themselves or others.
